  • 5 Onions (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup Beef Broth
  • 3 cups Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1/2 Baguette (for breadcrumbs)
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 2 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Thinly slice the onions and caramelize them in olive oil over medium heat for 30–40 minutes until golden brown. Stir occasionally and add beef broth if necessary.
  2. In the same skillet, prepare the béchamel sauce by melting butter, whisking in flour, and gradually adding heavy cream until thickened.
  3. Stir in two-thirds of the caramelized onions into the béchamel sauce along with seasonings and Parmesan cheese.
  4. Cook cavatappi macaroni until al dente and mix it with the sauce.
  5. Transfer to a baking dish, top with remaining onions and breadcrumbs, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–15 minutes until golden brown.
