  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar (for sprinkling on top)
  • 1 tsp milk (for top)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, spices, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut cold butter into the dry mixture until it resembles small peas.
  4. Stir in milk and molasses until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Shape into a circle on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and flatten to about 3/4" thick.
  6. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Cut into wedges and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Optionally, drizzle with icing made from powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla.
